What? There’s 30% less people about?

Well, what are we waiting for? Let’s take up 300% more room!

People are like software.  They will expand to consume whatever space and resources are available to them.

B ad parking should be a ticketable offense.

I laughed more than I anticipated, filling the empty room with my rambunctious revelry.

It probably is, just rarely enforced. Can we make it a capital offense,  specially when it comes to handicapped spots?

I think it comes down mostly to public vs private parking?

Public parking is certainly enforceable, such as curbside parking violations, etc. But the examples above appear to be on private property (as in open to the public, but privately owned ). It’s probably gonna vary by state/province, but my understanding was that the property owners are the only ones who can do anything about that, and they rarely care because they’re too afraid of losing customers’ business. If anything, the police might still have jurisdiction over handicap spaces and/or fire lanes though?

Your pro bably correct. My big issue with handicapped spots these days is when people park there without a permit, and say they have one when I call them on it. And I had one guy give me shit when I parked in one, even though I actually have a permit. He was bitching that I wasn’t in a wheelchair; it’s not only people in wheelchairs that are allowed to use those spots, and on many days I don’t use my cane . Oh, and people who use the striped off area between the handicapped spots - the lines are there on the ground FOR A REASON.

Years ago I found a nasty note on my windshield from some bitch in a Jag XJ. She was complaining that she had to climb into her car through the passenger side. My thought? Tough shit - I was in a legal spot and she wasn’t; the garage was full, at least on that level, so she tried to make her own spot at the end of the aisle - I was in the last spot in that row and she was making it difficult for others to drive through the garage since she turned two lanes into one for her own convenience . Park like an ass and you pay the price. Boo fucking hoo.

And years ago I was pissed at a poorly parked LAPD car at Wendy’s that was needlessly over the line and into the next space . I parked next to him, legally, and he couldn’t get in his car. He looked up my plate and came into the restaurant and called for me, by name, and asked me to please move my car. His partner was standing behind him with a big grin on his face which quickly went away when the lead officer turned around. Yeah, I probably shouldn’t have done it as it may have delayed them if they go t a call, but there was no excuse for him to park like a complete and utter prick when there was plenty of room. Just because you have a badge and a gun doesn’t exempt you from societal standards, especially when you’re on 7.

Happy to hear I’m not the only one who won’t hesitate to park close to a badly parked car! Too often people will claim that they were “forced” to park badly because of another badly- parked car, and I don’t want to be like that. I don’t want to come out to my car only to find the other car gone, and me looking like the asshole. I’m going to park as well as I can, and if the other driver failed to le ave enough room for themselves, that’s their problem.

...But t o be f air, I do think that bad parking lot design contributes to this to a significant degree. With t he average passenger car being ~ 6 feet wide, and the average parking space being 9 feet wide, that leaves only a foot and a half on either side (plus a foot and a half from the neighboring parking space... IF they were kind enough to park   centered between their lines) to open our doors. God forbid that we come back to our cars with groceries/ merchandise that we’ll have to carefully squeeze into our vehicles without letting our doors hit the car next to us... I fear that the 9 foot standard width is probably some out-of-date legal minimum that designers are taking advantage of in order to maximize lot capacity.
